The unbeaten Los Angeles Rams (8-0) travel to the Big Easy to take on the New Orleans Saints (6-1) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints are playing arguably their best football of the season as they have won six straight after losing 48-40 in the season opener to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Although the Rams are sizzling hot and playing perhaps the best football in the NFL they have to face a Saints team that appears to have the right formula to defeat the last team that has yet to lose in the NFL.
This game will feature two quarterbacks playing at an extremely high and efficient level in Drew Brees and Jared Goff, but the game will most likely come down to the running back battle between Todd Gurley and the Saints ground attack led by Alvin Kamara.
Gurley is an outstanding runner but he’s even more dangerous because of the many ways he can be used. He’s extremely versatile and difficult to defend because of his receiving skills, which open things up for the Rams when they use him in play-action plays. He’s the key to what the whole Rams offense is about as opposing defenses have to prepare for him even in the passing game.
On the other hand, for the Saints the key to their offense is also their ground attack, which features Kamara (801 total yards and nine touchdowns in eight games) and Mark Ingram (two rushing scores in three games this season). The Saints running game gives this team huge offensive flexibility making them one of the toughest defensive challenges in the NFL.
The Saints are very balanced, diverse and explosive on offense due to all the weapons they have at their disposal, which gives defenses a lot to plan against.
The Rams will put up a hell of a fight against the Saints on Sunday but is very hard to see them beating the Saints at home. If the Saints defense stands up to the challenge and finds a formula to slow down Gurley, Goff and the rest of the Rams explosive offense, they will win this difficult clash between the two best squads in the NFC.
