The final NFL Sunday for the month of September was full of action and most of the teams picked to win… actually won…. and covered. However, there were a few exceptions where the favorite not only failed to cover… they lost outright.
The Blokes over in London got their Euros worth on Sunday afternoon as ‘Big Ben’ Roethlisberger took his 0-3 Steelers into Wembley Stadium to take on Matt Cassel at quarterback and the Minnesota Vikings. Pittsburg went into the contest at 2.5 point favorites with the Over & Under set at 42. The final score of the game was Vikings 34- Steelers 27, way Over.
One of the NFL stars that the Britts came out to see was Adrian Peterson and the All-Pro running back did not disappoint. He had a 60 yard dash from scrimmage for a score in the second quarter and finished the day with 140 yards total and 2 touchdowns. Greg Jennings made 2 TD catches and the Vikings upset the Steelers in a game that went 29 points over. Not a bad showing for two winless teams.
The defending world champion Baltimore Ravens went over to Buffalo to take on rookie quarterback EJ Manuel and the Bills as 3.5 point favorites with the Over & Under set at 44.5 before the game. Joe Flacco put up huge numbers. He threw for 347 yards! Unfortunately for the Ravens, his interception numbers were also huge… Flacco threw a record 5 picks during the contest. Final score Bills 23-Ravens 20… the dog and the Under took this one.
The battle of Ohio featured the Bengals and the Browns going at it with the Bengals listed as 3.5 point favorites with the Over & Under set at 42. But Cincinnati did not count of Brian Hoyer throwing 2 TD passes in his first start at home with the Browns to lead them to a 17-6 victory over the Bengals. The dog and the Under took this one as well.
Even with all of the drama surrounding the benching of Josh Freeman, the Buccaneers were posted as 2.5 point favorites when they hosted the Arizona Cardinals in Tampa Bay. The Over & Under was set at 40.5. Two key interceptions by Cardinals safety Patrick Peterson put a damper on rookie quarterback Mike Glennon’s debut as starting quarterback and Arizona won the game outright by a final score of 13-10. Once again, it was the dog and the Under.
