It’s time for the Stanley Cup Playoffs once again and ice hockey fans everywhere are starting to get just a little wilder each day until someone drinks from the big silver cup this year.
After an exciting seven game series, in fact game 7 went into overtime, the Chicago Blackhawks ended up winning the series from a feisty Detroit Redwing team and advanced to the Western Conference round where they will face the Los Angeles Kings whose current roster includes 19 players whose names are already engraved on the Stanley Cup from last years’ victory. The Blackhawks still have 8 from their 2010 Cup title.
It was the favorite and the under in game seven at the ‘Madhouse on Madison’ in downtown Chicago when the Blackhawks beat the Redwings in front of a boisterous sell-out crowd. The score was tied 1-1 with 2 minutes to go in the third period when Chicago scored a long goal and the crowded went wild… but then, way back in the middle of the ice, one of the refs was waving his arms and calling the goal back.
The game went into overtime with the standing room only crowd booing vigorously all during the intermission period. In fact, they were still booing when the overtime period got started. Luckily for that ref, the Blackhawks scored first in the sudden-death period and Chicago won the match. He may not have made it out of the building otherwise.
The Blackhawks start with home ice advantage on Saturday at 5 EST and are favored over the Kings to win the series. Opening odds for the series out of the big LVH Sportsbook in Las Vegas give the Blackhawks -145 to the Kings +125
The Kings and the Blackhawks met three times during the past regular season play with Chicago winning 2 of the 3 games. Lines for game one have Chicago at -143 and LA at +133.
Serious hockey fans are gearing up to watch the seven game series for the Eastern Conference Title between the Pittsburg Penguins and the Boston Bruins.
