ULM aka The University of Louisiana at Monroe has arrived as force to be reckoned with on the football field by beating the nationally ranked Arkansas Razorbacks in a thrilling overtime victory on Saturday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd in Little Rock.
ULM Quarterback Kolton Browning completed 42 of 67 passes for 412 yards in the unlikely upset. The game went into overtime after an interception of an Arkansas pass as they were driving toward the end zone late in the fourth quarter which allowed the second-team All-Sun Belt quarterback from a season ago to complete a 23-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-10 with 55 seconds remaining in regulation. Browning connected with Brent Leonard for the 23-yard touchdown pass to tie the game 28-28. An amazed crowd watched on as the game went into overtime with the Razorbacks winning the coin toss but coming away with only three points from their possession starting from the ULM 25 yard line.
The War Eagles then came on to take their shot at victory. It took only 4 plays before Quarterback Browning took a 16 yard run around right end and into the end zone ending the contest in front of a shocked home crowd in Little Rock.
Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson received a blow to the head in the first half after passing for 2 touchdowns and 196 yards and did not return for the second half. Arkansas coach John L. Smith said on Sunday that his prognosis is good for a speedy recovery.
NCAA history buffs will remember that it was this same Louisiana-Monroe team back in 2007 which defeated the nationally ranked Alabama team and creating somewhat of a scandal in the SEC. Guess what SEC, don’t underestimate the War Hawks in the future. They may just fool you. However, they must travel again to Alabama to play the Arburn Tigers next week and face another tough gridiron challenge.
The Arkansas Razorbacks have now fallen completely out of the Top 25 AP Poll and must now face the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide next week on that very same home field.
Good Luck Hogs!
