Now that there is no more BCS, college sports fans will be expecting some changes in the way that the college football playoffs are run. Hopefully for the better, although it looks like most of the same folks running things that we had last year.
One of the changes that we probably should have expected will be a rather steep price increase in the price of tickets to witness the big game. Get out your wallets or go to the bank, because the least expensive premium (decent) seats in the stadium are going for almost two dimes a pop. That’s right, nearly $2,000 a ticket for a football game!
The organizers of the very first College Football Playoff (which is a committee) have chosen two ticket vendors to market the high dollar passes. They are PrimeSport and Colonade Group and both started out listing identical prices on their respective web sites. Of course that’s not price fixing, is it?
At least the game will be played indoors in a new modern dome. AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas (better known as Cowboys Stadium) will host the event on January 12th, 2015.
So the cheapest ticket will cost you $1,899, $3,798 if you bring a date or a kid. But wait folks, you not only get admission to the game but the price of the ticket also gets you into a 3 hour long pre-game event which includes a full premium menu and a top shelf bar service. A $50 merchandise voucher also comes along with the deal.
That does sweeten it up a bit. Even if you could only afford the cheap seats (at 2 grand apiece), you can still impress your date with the spiffy hospitality service and open bar plus a nice T-Shirt for both of you.
If your pockets are a little deeper and you want to go all out for the Championship game, you can get yourself into a suite somewhere between the 20 yard lines for a mere $3,899 per head which gets you the first class food and beverage service plus access onto the field after the game.
Available options include various sized suites which will accommodate from 15 to 59 seated guests. These tickets start at $4,000 each.
Just as a point of reference, tickets for the Rose Bowl went for between $150 & $185. Sugar Bowl tickets ranged from $175 to $240 and tickets to the BCS National Championship Game cost from $325 to $385. What happened?
