The SEC may have lost the National Football Championship… for the time being but when it came to the recruiting class of 2014, the nation’s top conference came out on top once again. Alabama and LSU led the nation in recruiting on National Signing Day in hopes of paving the way to yet another national title for the SEC.
In the past five NCAA College Football seasons, Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide have won the BCS Championship three times and the Southeastern Conference, the SEC, won the Title for seven years in a row before bowing to Florida State in 2013. The Florida Gators, the Auburn Tigers and the LSU Tigers also won national titles during those seven years.
No doubt the long record of success that the SEC has enjoyed has had a very positive effect on the recruiting programs for the conference schools. If you were an outstanding high school student looking for a good university program that will get you a college education while at the same time serving as a stepping stone to the NFL, the NBA or other professional sports the SEC is a logical choice.
Another huge upside to playing in the SEC is the overall quality of the schools and their respective coaching staffs. There is not a finer group of coaches and trainers in the country. The Alabama head coach even has a mathematical plan to help recruit and develop his young players.
One third of Nick Saban’s efforts go directly into talent acquisition, finding and recruiting the very best young players available. Another third goes into player development, which involves improving the talented athletes while they are on the college campus and the final third aims at proper personnel use… which means putting that talented and developed young player into the very best position to succeed and the program seems to be working!
Saban swiped the top rated outside linebacker, Rashaan Evans from Auburn and five star tackle Cameron Robinson from Louisiana. Then he stretched all the way up to Minnesota for center JC Hassenauer and out to Iowa for Ross Pierschbacher.
Les Miles and the LSU Tigers made a few big scores of their own bringing aboard highly rated wide receiver Malachi Dupree, and one of the most coveted running backs in the country, Leonard Fournette both from New Orleans. Miles and his staff also pulled linebacker Clifton Garrett out of the grasps of the Tide and five-star Safety Jamal Adams from the Gators. Geaux Tigers! Go SEC.
