With a cluster of five runs in the twelfth inning, the Kansas City Royals beat the New York Mets 7-2 on Sunday and were crowned the World Series Champions. We will take a look back into those games were the Royals were tirelessly grasping the glory and were their intentions permeated the fans and became clear the 2015 World Series would be for the Kansas City squad.
Kansas City and New York Mets imposed a record for most games with extra innings, it is the first time two games with extra innings are held in the same World Series since the Arizona Diamondbacks faced the Yankees in October 2001.
Game One:
A sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to Eric Hosmer against Bartolo Colon in the bottom of the 14th inning sealed the 5-4 win for Kansas City Royals over the Mets in the first game of the World Series. After Alex Gordon tied the game with a homer with one out in the ninth, the Royals and Mets were locked in a marathon match that eventually became the longest for the first challenge of a Fall Classic, lasting five hours and nine minutes.
Game Two:
The Dominican pitcher Johnny Cueto showed his caliber to lead Kansas City to a dominant 7-1 victory over the New York Mets and thus take the lead at that point 2-0 in the World Series. The pitcher was a monster: a memorable performance by pulling the full path and allowing only two hits and one run, exchange for the victory in the match played at Kauffman Stadium.
Game Four:
Daniel Murphy’s error in the eighth inning opened the floodgates for a comeback for Kansas City, which imposed the New York Mets to the 5-3 victory, to be on the verge of winning his second ring the history of the World Series. With the advantage of New York 3-2, Murphy, the second base before the playoffs set a record by hitting a home run in six consecutive games, he fielded a grounder from Eric Hosmer. The ball went into the right and Ben Zobrist scored from second base. Singles by Mike Moustakas and Salvador Perez increased the difference, muting the Citi Field on Halloween night.
Game Five:
The amazing performance occurred last Sunday in the fifth game of the World Series, crowned by the contribution of Christian Colon, a player who had not been taken into account throughout the playoffs and eventually became the figure in the conquest of the first championship since 1985. The single from the puerto rican hitter broke the tie in the bottom of the twelfth inning and the team went 7-2 over the New York Mets; Lorenzo Cain added a three-run double and Alcides Escobar produced another run with an extra-base, to reach the cluster of five runs and thus the coveted crown.
