The first season after the Marc Trestman disaster had several positive points in Chicago. The team at least shows up to play, the defense has many new faces but the improvement is amazing. Enter John Fox and the the difference was noticeable from day one, the reconstruction should continue this offseason.
The good thing about the 2015 season for the Chicago Bears:
The marked improvement in the overall team and in each individual position, both offensively and defensively. John Fox and his staff have done so far a great job with this team coming off a two year breaking process under the leadership of Marc Trestman and general manager Phil Emery.
Free Agency acquisitions, especially Pernell McPhee was an immediate impact to the squad, has become the new defensive distinctive of the franchise, along with second-year corner Kyle Fuller (perhaps the only good thing the Bears kept from Trestman era in the team).
The downside of the 2015 season for the Chicago Bears:
Overall, another year was spent veteran faces do not get younger and contracts do not come out of nowhere, special teams were a disappointment, something that had not happened for a long time on this team, at least three games were lost by special teams mistakes. The offensive continues and will continue under the leadership of Cutler, It is arguably not the best decision, but the team made an investment in him too strong to be separated from that decision.
Bears season ended when ….
When Robbie Gould missed the first of three field goals within two games against the 49ers this to prevent overtime, missing, San Francisco took the win instead of finishing the week with 6-6, the Bears finished with a 5-7 record unable to continue fighting for playoffs.
2016 Bears?
Reconstruction plans must remain the same, however some important decisions still need to be made towards the future of the franchise. If Forte continues in the team or not, which way to go in the draft and free agency. Chicago is still a very long way, but since they recruited Fox as head coach last year, the good decisions began.
Potential Free Agents:
Matt Forte – RB (30)
Alshon Jeffery – WR (25)
Tracy Porter – CB (29)
Shea McClelin – ILB (26)
