After a short week to San Francisco and a nice break to Pittsburgh, here are the comments of the triumph of the Steelers vs 49ers.
Uneven game from the start
The NFL continues to nevermind the calendar times and the rest there is in each team to prepare for a game, especially if they are games where a team has to make a long trip and this time was the 49ers turn. While the Steelers had more than a week off, the 49ers played last Monday. This certainly marks an advantage.
The Steelers can forget the running game
Although the first week the Steelers had good numbers carrying the ball, especially with DeAngelo Williams, this time the Steelers were devoted to be effective with Roethlisberger’s arm and abusing the 49ers defensive backs. The first half ended with 28 yards rushing and about 230 passing which speaks of the domain of Pittsburgh passing talent, plus more than 29 points on the scoreboard.
The 49ers offensive line
Both in the running and in the passing game, the offensive line was dominated throughout the match. Carlos Hyde was not even a shadow of Colin Kaepernick on Monday and rarely had enough comfortable launch time. The Pittsburgh defensive had a relaxed evening and were able to get sacks and stops behind the line. It is difficult to establish an offensive series without the support of the line.
49ers has no depth in the running back position
After Carlos Hyde got injured in the encounter, there was no player who could cover his absence as was the case with Jim Harbaugh. Rookie Mike Davis did not show ability to carry the running game on his shoulders so San Francisco could have many problems if their starter running back be absent longer.
Ryan Shazier is the best man in the Steelers’ defense
If there was a player who made great defensive plays, it was the second-year linebacker for the Steelers. He has shown he can anticipate blockage to stop the offensive behind the line of scrimmage and react very quickly to assist the tackle when in coverage. Keith Butler should use him better when facing dangerous offensive rivals.
Steelers kicker remains nonexistent
It seemed that the first two occasions when the Steelers tried and managed to make the two-point conversion was by strategy. By the third touchdown, they intended Josh Scobee to take the extra point and he managed to fail. They should seek the solution to this problem as soon as possible. In a close game where you need a field goal to win or tie, they could be in real trouble.
