The Seattle Sounders have won the Western Conference Championship for the first time in franchise history and advanced to the MLS Cup after defeating the Colorado Rapids 0-1 in return leg at DSG Park in Commerce City.
The Sounders are now waiting for the result of the return leg between two Canadian teams: Toronto FC and Montreal Impact, which will decide the Eastern Conference Champion at BMO Field in Toronto.
The Sounders defeated the Colorado Rapids in the Western Conference Final by an aggregate score of 3-1. They had previously defeated FC Dallas in the the Conference Semifinals by an aggregate score of 4-2 and Sporting Kansas City 1-0 in the knockout round.
Even though Colorado largely dominated the game, they failed to take advantage of the scoring opportunities they had as they incurred in several mistakes as time passed and pressure mounted.
In the first leg of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Montreal Impact squandered a 3-0 advantage as they allow Toronto to storm back with two late goals that gave them new life and left everything in the air to be decided in Ontario
With renewed hopes after a defeat that felt more like a victory, Toronto will now try to overcome the one-goal deficit and give their home fans the joy of reaching the MLS Cup for the first time in franchise history.
Montreal Impact are also trying to reach their first MLS Cup in franchise history after advancing to their first Eastern Conference Final since 2012, year in which they joined the MLS.
Last year they lost in the Conference Semifinal to the Columbus Crew, the eventual Eastern Conference Champion that lost in the MLS Cup to the Portland Timbers 1-2.
For the return leg Toronto FC are favored by linemakers as the line has them at -200, while the Impact are +400, while in the total the under is at -125 and the over at -115.
The return leg is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.
