Real Madrid will collide with vs. Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday at Estadio José Alvalade in Portugal, as part of week 5 of the Champions League Group stage. The Portuguese squad will be seeking a rematch after having lost the first game 2-1 with a goal of their former player Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real Madrid arrives at this encounter in second place of Group F, with eight points as a result of two wins and two draws in the first four matches. They trail group leaders Borussia Dortmund by two points.
The Germans lead the group because they have managed to win all their games except the first game against Real Madrid, which they tied in front of their home fans at Signal Iduna Park.
The “Merengues” reach this game motivated by the 0-3 win on Saturday, against Atletico de Madrid at the Vicente Calderon Stadium in La Liga play. They have so far managed to stay unbeaten through their first 12 weeks in their domestic league (nine wins and three draws) as well as the first four weeks of Champions League games.
Sporting Lisbon are third in the group with only three points, as a result of their home victory against Legia Warsaw. Similarly, they are third in the Primera Liga with 21 points, five below leaders Benfica.
Both clubs have only faced three times throughout their history with the Spanish side winning two and one match ending in a draw. The Sporting Lisbon faithful are hoping their club can get their first victory against the Merengues, who have not been able to win away from home in this continental tournament.
Real Madrid need to win if they want to keep pace with the group leaders because in the other game Borussia Dortmund host Legia Warsaw in a game that the Germans are clear favorites and are expected to win.
