Former Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has reached an agreement to sign a one-year $14-million contract with the Los Angeles Rams.
By signing with the Rams, Suh took less money than what was being offered by some of the other teams he had been talking to. Before signing his new contract, Suh met with the Tennessee Titans and the New Orleans Saints among others.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that one of the reasons Suh accepted to sign with the Rams was that he wanted to play in a club where he wouldn’t be double-teamed and playing next to four-time Pro Bowler Aaron Donald would prevent that from happening.
Suh, a five-time Pro Bowler, also wanted to go to a place where he could have a chance to win and after seeing what the Rams did in 2017 he believes that he’s making the right choice.
The Rams have thus boosted their interior defense after bolstering their secondary by adding cornerbacks Marcus Peters from the Kansas City Chiefs and Aquib Talib from the Denver Broncos to play along safety Lamarcus Joyner.
Even if opposing teams try to slide the protection of their quarterbacks they will now have a lot of trouble blocking and containing the Rams defensive front.
The Rams now have a scary defense that has Donald and Suh inside to apply a lot of pressure up the middle to the quarterbacks, while outside they have some serious lockdown guys such as Peters and Talib that are not only capable of covering anyone, but also a threat to score on any given play via a pick six.
On paper, these pieces give the Rams and defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, one of the most intimidating defensive lines in the NFL, improving their chances of reaching the playoffs and making a deep postseason run.
