As a Quarterback, the function is to manage games and deliver the ball to the RB from 30-40 times a game. The problem is that without the ability to be the leader of the offense once they have a considerable disadvantage. If the run does not work and the opposing team forces Dallas to throw it is almost a guaranteed victory for the opponent. Brandon Weeden still needs much more experience and he hasn’t really shown any potential to do so, The problem is that Matt Cassel is not the answer either at this point.
Although they were not as dominant as in other games (still got 30 points) New England is proving to have key pieces for the destruction of any defense: Dion Lewis and Julian Edelman. Lewis is still a revelation and its ability to generate both rushing yards and receptions make him a vital element in this offense. Julian Edelman in an unstoppable scheme, not only by how well he runs the routes, but for his “misleading” speed with the ball in his hands.
They were lost in between the Patriots dominant performance, but New England special teams forced the Cowboys to have long, sustained offensive in their 20. and to that we add good field position on punt returns, the Pats had short and blunt drives that helped them consolidate their advantage. Stephen Gostkowski is always a guarantee when attempting a FG.
Within the little positive side brought in by Dallas was the return of two good elements in this defense: Rolando McClain and Greg Hardy. Hardy’s pass rush looks different and was responsible for two sacks and generating pressure to Tom Brady. McClain was the leader of the team in tackles and had a sack. This defensive endured for two and a half quarters, but did not receive any help from his offense.
They were one of the most forgotten elements in this victory, but the New England defense completely erased the attack of Dallas and left them with only 6 points. Without much fuzz they had three sacks and generated two turnovers. The longest run they allowed was a 21-yard pass to Cole Beasley and, like the rest of the team, dominant from start to finish.
The Cowboys CB has been a real disappointment and it’s time to label it as a bust pick. Against New England he was completely lost in their coverage and was one of the responsible for most of the Patriots big plays of the game.
