After some helter- skelter games in the NFL this Sunday, only the Falcons, the Cardinals and the Texans are still unbeaten at 4-0 after the first 4 weeks of regular season play. The Houston Texans easily defeated the Tennessee Titans by a score of 38-14. The outcome was never really in question as Quarterback Matt Schaub completed 20 of 28 passes for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns. Arian Foster from the University of Tennessee ran 24 times for 86 yards and one touchdown. Owen Daniels had six receptions for a total of 72 yards and one touchdown in the victory. Houston will next go to New York to face the Jets (2-2) on Monday Night Football.
The Atlanta Falcons beat the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon, but just barely.
In fact they did not cover the 2.5 points by which they were favored to win. The final score was 30-28 with only a late field goal carrying the Falcons to past the Cam Newton and the Panthers who were leading 28-27 with only seconds left to play. Atlanta Quarterback Matt Ryan took an awful beating in the contest but winning against division rival Carolina must make the pain easier to take. Ryan threw 40 passes and completed 25 for 369 yards and 3 touchdowns. Shaking off a career-high seven sacks, Ryan completed a 59-yard pass to Roddy White with about a minute remaining, setting up Matt Bryant’s 40-yard field goal that kept the Falcons perfect on the season with a wild 30-28 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
With time running out, Matt Ryan had no timeouts and surely some doubt about how much time his beleaguered offensive line would give him. But he dropped back about as far as he could, then threw the football about as far as he could, and relied on White to go up and make the catch, which he did with style. Matt Bryant’s field goal won it with 5 seconds remaining. The Falcons next travel to Washington to face the Redskins (2-2) next Sunday afternoon.
The Arizona Cardinals also remain undefeated after 4 games but, once again, it was close.
The beleaguered Miami Dolphins came to the desert to play football and almost brought the Cardinals down. Almost. Ryan Tannehill completed 26 of 41 passes for an impressive 431 yards in the losing effort for the Dolphins while Arizona’s’ Kevin Kolb passed for 324 yards completing 29 of 48. Jay Feely kicked a 46-yard field goal 6:31 into overtime to keep the Cardinals unbeaten with a 24-21 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
The Cardinals (4-0) forced overtime when Kevin Kolb threw a 15-yard touchdown pass on fourth down to Andre Roberts with 22 seconds to play in regulation. Arizona will face Sam Bradford and the St. Louis Rams next Sunday in St. Louis.
How many undefeated teams will remain after week 5………?
