The Oklahoma City Thunder is sitting in fourth place in the Western Conference after defeating the Toronto Raptors 132-125 on the road. The team has now won six in a row and eight of its last 10 games.
They seem to be clicking at the right time as they have shown they have the ability to compete and even beat the best teams in the league.
The Thunder is a combined 5-2 against the Golden State Warriors, Houston and Toronto and no other teams come even close to approaching that record against those teams.
The Thunder also brought in Corey Brewer from the Los Angeles Lakers. The veteran has surprisingly helped them elevate their game offensively with his pace and defensively he’s made up for the loss of the injured Andre Roberson, who’s out for the season.
Keep in mind that the Thunder is a very skilled team that still has top-flight talent in Paul George, Carmelo Anthony, Steven Adams and Russell Westbrook, who is still one of the best players in the NBA.
Despite their earlier struggles this team is now peaking at the right time and playing its best when they need it the most, becoming one of those teams that no one wants to face in the first round of the playoffs.
If they want to make an impact in the postseason and keep their spot as one of the top four in the West they will need to keep rolling because the conference is so tight right now that only four games separate Oklahoma from the ninth spot.
Although the top two spots in the Western Conference are pretty much a lock (nobody will catch the Rockets and the Warriors right now) the bottom of the standings is a whole different matter.
And while the Thunder have been playing superb basketball they can’t relax yet if they want to host a first-round series in the playoffs or even make sure they clinch a playoff spot as for the remainder of their schedule they will only play one game against a team that is not in contention for the playoffs.
