NCAA investigators had Texas A&M Quarterback Johnny Manziel in for questioning over the weekend in a session that lasted almost 6 hours. As expected, Manziel denied taking money for signing autographs.
According to unconfirmed reports, Johnny Football signed his name more than 4,400 times in six sessions for memorabilia dealers at the beginning of 2013. I don’t know about you, but, if I had to sign my name over 4,000 times… I would be expecting some sort of compensation. Imagine the hand cramps.
Up to this point in the ‘investigation’, no one has yet to present video or photographic evidence that Manziel ever took the money in the first place and many are beginning to wonder just what Mark Emmert’s office is trying to prove by this very public ‘investigation’ into what amounts to one of this countries heroes.
Johnny Manziel won the Heisman Trophy as a freshman in 2012. Do you know how many others have done that? That’s right… zero, no one in the history of the award. This ‘investigation’ has been going on for weeks now and here we are just days before first scheduled football game for Texas A&M against Rice at College Station and the commissioner’s office remains silent on what they intend to do about the situation.
Aggie fans everywhere must be biting their nails worrying about the possibility the Johnny Football will not be allowed to play football this year and what that could mean for the Texas A&M athletic program… specifically the football team.
And it’s not only the sports fans that are left in a quandary. What about all of the folks that wanted to wager on the Aggies… or have already done so? The odds on A&M without their quarterback and leader will surely scramble if Manziel is not allowed to play.
Following the wishes of the University, Manziel and coach Sumlin have refrained from speaking to the press about the situation. The players on the Aggies football were also instructed not to speak in public on the topic of Johnny Manziel.
NCAA Commissioner Mark Emmert is already being seen in a dubious light by fans and writers all over the country after the bungling of the case against the University of Miami… to name just one. Emmert could well be on his way out and if his office declares that Johnny Manziel cannot play football next year… that could well be the swan song for Mr. Emmert.
