Ole Roger has really stepped in it this time. He’s even got the National Organization for Women (NOW) issuing statements calling for his ouster as commissioner of the National Football League. That’s a $30,000,000 a year job that the ladies are asking for. Let’s hope that they get it!
Roger Goodell has been riding the edge of abusing the power of his job for quite awhile now, and he has pissed a lot of people off, if you will excuse the expression. NOW is not the first voice to call for replacing Roger Goodell. Whether that replacement will be one person or a committee remains to be seen, but Sir Roger is getting out of hand.
And now he has blundered badly in the Ray Rice case. Two weeks for cold-cocking your girlfriend, and a year for smoking a joint? Where are the man’s priorities? So public opinion, in the press as well as on the internet, is quickly turning against Commissioner Goodell and his all powerful position.
Goodell may work for the owners, who pay out a million bucks each per year to him to run the NFL, however, we, the fans are a part of the NFL as well, .and we don’t like him very much anymore. The bubble has burst, .it’s time for Rog to go.
Now that he has not done a bang up job of running the league. Under Goodell’s administration the National Football League has undergone an almost ridiculous prosperity with franchise prices now totaling into the billions of dollars and top players down on the field making a million dollars a game, or more.
However, Goodell claims never to have seen the incriminating tape that is now causing such a scandal. It seems strange that the video took so long to emerge. The transparency built into life today with cameras everywhere waiting to feed the insatiable internet for any new emerging topic, should be a warning to everyone, especially celebrities, to behave themselves, .because, chances are, someone is watching!
NOW has taken the situation very seriously. Their statement to the press read, “The NFL sets the example for college, high school, middle school and even elementary school football programs. And the example it is setting right now is simply unacceptable.”
However, NOW does offer a suggestion, “The only workable solution is for Roger Goodell to resign, and for his successor to appoint an independent investigator with full authority to gather factual data about domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking within the NFL community, and to recommend real and lasting reforms.”
Good plan!
