If you think you have heard the last of ‘the South shall rise again’, get ready for the SEC Network which is set to go on the air with ESPN in August. This long awaited event is the result of many years of negotiations and planning by SEC Commissioner Mike Slive and his staff and the folks at ESPN.
Member Universities in the SEC are getting ready for a financial windfall like nothing ever before in the long history of their great schools. The money that will come pouring into the college campus coffers will be staggering. Already new stadiums and sports facilities are underway across the south and well as some massive expansions to existing venues.
Several of the big SEC schools will boast stadiums that will hold over 100,000 fans for the big games and they will fill them up even with the games now being broadcast on local TV.
And the SEC Network is pulling out off the stops to bring southern football & basketball fans the very best in sports broadcasting. To this end, they are bringing in some top flight talent to call the games.
Veteran sports announcers Brent Musburger and Jesse Palmer will be the voices of the new SEC Network which will be run by ESPN. Musburger has called the past 5 BCS Championship games and has been inducted to the Hall of Fame as a sportscaster, there are not a lot of those.
ESPN’s executive vice president for programming and production, John Wildhack had high praise for the broadcasting team when the announcement was made.
“Brent Musburger is a cultural icon who has been guiding fans through many of sport’s most spectacular moments for decades. His big-game performance and unmistakable style will elevate our football coverage on the SEC Network.”
Wildhack went on to say that serving as the definitive play-by-play voice for this major network launch represents an exciting new chapter in Musburger’s legendary career and reinforces our commitment and investment in the SEC Network.
Jesse Palmer is one of college football’s most insightful, entertaining and dedicated analysts. The former quarterback for the Florida Gators has the knowledge and experience to shed light of the whys and wherefores that are college football today.
Together these two pros will put the finishing touches on the new SEC Network which has already contracted such talent as Joe Tessitore, Paul Finebaum and the ever popular Tim Tebow.
