If Conor McGregor somehow escapes punishment by the legal system and UFC itself, he could end fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight championship, just don’t expect the fight to take place in Russia.
After his bus attack in Brooklyn, McGregor was charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of criminal mischief and his future is yet to be determined as he awaits his trial in New York.
UFC president Dana White said to TMZ Sports that before deciding on a punishment for McGregor he would like to see the case go through the legal system first.
He also revealed in that TMZ Sports interview that if the Khabib-McGregor does happen it would not take place in Russia, but instead, it would have to be in Las Vegas.
White admitted that they are looking to schedule a fight for Khabib in Russia at some point, but it would not be the fight against McGregor as it would be too big of an event.
“If you do a fight that big, you’ve got to do it in Vegas,” White told TMZ. “Khabib will fight in Russia at some point, but it won’t be that fight. It’s too big. You gotta do it in Vegas.”
McGregor posted $50,000 bail after his arrest and is next hearing is scheduled for June 14.
Although White has yet to release an official statement about possible sanctions against McGregor, his stance has apparently softened and is now open to contemplating the possibility of a Khabib-McGregor fight despite the fact that after finding out about the Irishman’s bus attack he called the actions despicable and disgusting.
