Outfielder Giancarlo Stanton hit two homers in the Miami Marlins’ 4-0 win over the Texas Rangers and tied New York Yankees’ rookie Aaron Judge total of 32 to share the MLB’s home run lead.
Stanton, who blasted a two-run homer in the first and an empty bases homer in the eighth, has six in the last seven games. Adam Conley earned the win to improve to 3-3, while Martin Perez earned the loss and fell to 5-8.
Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre went four for four. The Dominican is now only seven hits short of becoming the 31st player in MLB history to reach 3,000 hits.
The Chicago White Sox stopped a nine-game losing skid, their worst in four years by beating their hometown rivals. Adam Engel and Matt Davidson each hit a homer and Mexican starter Miguel Gonzalez struck out three in 7.1 innings of work to lead the White Sox to a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
The Los Angeles Dodgers returned to their winning ways by beating the Minnesota Twins 6-4 and improved to 69-31, the best record in baseball.
Rookie sensation Cody Bellinger contributed to the Dodgers’ victory with a three-run homer in the eighth inning, his 28th of the season which ranks him second only to Stanton in the National League. Edward Paredes earned the victory, while closer Kenley Jansen struck one the ninth inning to earn his 25th save of the season.
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, hit two doubles and a pair of singles to extend his hitting streak to 16 games and contribute to the Astros’ 13-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Altuve is batting .528 during the hitting streak.
Meanwhile Mexican closer Roberto Osuna, earned his 25th save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth inning to help the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Oakland Athletics 4-2. For the A’s, Chris Smith took the loss.
