For years the city of Los Angeles has been missing a NFL team, but that might soon change in as soon as 5 years according to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. This new future team will be joining two successful basketball teams, one hockey, soccer and two baseball teams that are already in town.
This fresh out of the oven news come after Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney foresaw that the second largest market in the country will have a team to call its own within a couple of years. Mr. Rooney, also chairman of the NFL’s stadium committee went as far as predicting not one, but two teams for L.A within the next decade.
The idea of two teams come mainly to justify the cost of building a state of art stadium, which costs have been pegged for the staggering sum of up to $1.2 billion. The same company that owns the iconic staples center has been commissioned to build a new stadium in LA. So far, several designs and models have been proposed, but once again, nothing has been confirmed yet. The new stadium could be potentially located within an hour distance of almost 15 million people, which would make it extremely profitable for the potential team.
As for the teams that could relocate or even return to Los Angeles, rumors have already started although it’s still too early to know which ones. But of course, that hasn’t stopped speculation and rumors from happening.
L.A Football fans have already been predicting possible teams to move to their city. Among the possible candidates, the return of the return of the St. Louis Rams, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings have already been mentioned, although no word has been heard from their respective organizations.
One of the most farfetched rumors around these reports is the unlikely arrangement of the AFC West rivals to share a stadium. You read that right; two of the possible candidates include the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders.
Creating a new team is of the limits right now, as this would mean that the NFL would have an odd-number amount of teams. Precisely because of this, the idea of moving a current team and creating a new one is the most popular one among the supporters of this project.
As we see it, creating a new team is a long overdue venture, can only mean good news for football fans in Los Angeles and the country and general.
