Good news for Levi Strauss & Co.! After agreeing to a naming rights deal for the new home of the San Francisco 49ers that will cost the jeans company a whopping $220,300,000 over the next 20 years, the front office must have been very pleasantly gratified when their new namesake stadium sold out of season tickets even before the place was completely finished.
The new facility is not huge by modern standards. Many college campuses in the US now boast larger stadiums. Currently there is seating for 68,983 fans but the builders say that the capacity may be expanded to 75,000 for major future events. Seating in the new venue is unique in that two-thirds of the seats are located in the lower bowl of the stadium.
In an era when most cities are building domes, the design of the Levi’s Stadium is refreshingly open with natural Bermuda Bandera grass. The stadium is located in Santa Clara, California and is being built at an estimated cost of $1.3 Billion.
Super Bowl 50 will be played at the new Levi’s Stadium as well as WrestleMania 31, the Pac-12 Championship game and college football’s annual Fight Hunger Bowl.
The facility was designed by the internationally famous architecture firm of HNTB with an emphasis on creating a multi-purpose venue which will provide great experiences to fans while respecting the environment by utilizing green technology wherever possible.
The new Levi’s Stadium also known as ‘The Field of Jeans’ is now in the process of selling 1,500 standing room only tickets to 49er fans who want to be at the game, even if it means standing up in their jeans to watch it.
Al Guido of the 49ers front office said, “When it was evident our season tickets would sell out, we began to investigate other ways to provide our fans a different way to see Levi’s Stadium and support the team. Levi’s Stadium has the infrastructure to comfortably and safely accommodate standing room only tickets for our games, and we’re glad to have additional fans there to cheer us on.”
Under head coach Jim Harbaugh and a cooperative 49er front office, the San Francisco franchise of the NFL has become one of the best run, best coached teams in the league. Now with their new high tech stadium, the sky is the limit for the 49ers. All they have to do now is to win a Super Bowl to justify all of this!
