There were more bad injuries to key players in the NFL during week six action than in any other week in living memory. A lot of guys went down and changed the prospects of several teams in doing so. Some were career threatening injuries.
The biggest loss and the most painful to watch was when young Sam Bradford went down holding his knee and issuing screams that could be heard all the way up in the press box. Bradford’s season is most likely done for with a torn ACL.
Although he has come under some criticism for underperforming on the field after winning a big dollar contract, among the 32 quarterbacks in the NFL this season Bradford ranks 14th which ain’t so bad. Backup quarterback Kellen Clemens will step in for the Rams to finish the season but most are skeptical that he will be able to perform up to Bradford’s level.
Another eye opening injury was to the Saints All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham. While it is true that Drew Brees usually targets 7 or 8 receivers during the course of a game, no one in New Orleans doubts that Jimmy Graham is his favorite. Fortunately for the Saints, Darren Sproles out of the backfield can pick up some of the slack and rookie Kenny Stills is burning up the secondary for a first year receiver.
The Green Bay Packers were particularly hard hit by injuries in week six. Aaron Rogers is running out of receivers really fast! Randall Cobb and James Jones were already out with knee problems and Jermichael Finley suffered a frightening neck injury in Week 6 that leaves his further participation this season in doubt.
The Dallas Cowboys have lost a lot of key players early on this year. Demarcus Ware, Jay Ratliff, Tyrone Crawford and Anthony Spencer are all out of the picture and JJ Wilcox also did not start in Week 7. The Cowboys have been lucky so far but when they run into a quality offense there could be problems in Arlington.
Other notable injuries around the league include newly acquired quarterback Josh Freeman for the Minnesota Vikings who is out with a reported concussion. Christian Ponder may or may not play and Matt Cassel probably won’t help much.
Eagle’s quarterback Michael Vick has been hampered by a bad hamstring but may give it a go since his backup, Nick Foles, is also sidelined with a concussion.
