The road to the Triple Crown will officially open with the draw for lanes on this 142nd running of the traditional Kentucky Derby, the high ranking race held on the first Saturday of May at Churchill Downs Racetrack. In the formal ceremony the presence of horseracing authorities of Churchill Downs is expected, as well as jockeys, trainers, breeders, owners and other parties involved in the coveted commemorative test.
At the ceremony, no doubt that the focus will be ‘Nyquist’, considered the favorite to win the race.
In this regard ‘Mohaymen’ and ‘Exaggerator appear as second preferences for those with a keen eye for skill and potential. It is worth noting that ‘Mohaymen’ has remained unbeaten until losing after arriving in the fourth box in the Florida Derby, Nyquist won categorically that day, after victories in five other races.
Although the 20 horses that will officially enter the called Run for the Roses’, 24, may participate in the draw, 4 of which would be offstage. Among those who may enter the draw, leaving benefitted as to the scores that were awarded in targeted races, adding to the list we have ‘Gun Runner’, with 151 points, and culminating with ‘Mo Tom’, with 32 points.
For the start of the Triple Crown they have confirmed the performances of the hands of Luis Sáez and Ricardo Santana Jr., who will be on the backs of ‘Brody’s Cause’ and ‘Creator’, respectively.
The Kentucky Derby winner will receive a gold trophy, plus a $1,240,000 million purse and becomes a potential Triple Crown winner. The board would raise $400,000 on second, for the third box $200,000, fourth next with $100,000 in winnings and lastly, fifth place would pocket $60,000.
