Who is the NBA’s top point guard? Some will say, Stephen Curry, others Russell Westbrook, others Kyrie Irving and others Chris Paul to name a few.
Although the question generates a lot of debate among fans, media, and even players; for John Wall, star of the Washington Wizards, there is no debate about it.
As he prepares to start his eighth NBA season, Wall claimed he’s the most complete point guard in the NBA right now.
The 27-year-old Wall, training these days at the University of Miami with teammate Kelly Oubre Jr and the Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James, recently gave an interview to Ballislife where he made it clear he’s the best two-way point guard in the NBA.
Looking at Wall’s numbers last season, and comparing them to the rest of the point guards in the league, he had a player efficiency rating of 23.28, which ranks him sixth among NBA point guards and was the seventh highest scorer in the NBA (23, 1 points per game). Last season Wall ranked tenth in rebounds (4.2 rebounds per game), the best in assists (10.7 assists per game) and also led the league in steals (2.01 steals per game).
While John Wall’s presence on the floor is vital for the Washington Wizards’ due to his huge offensive skills and overall leadership, his defensive skills could use some improvements as he often struggled on that end of the floor last season.
In fact, with him on the floor, the Wizards allowed 107.3 points per game per every 100 possessions, while with him on the bench that number improved to 105.6.
Despite those numbers, the Wizards know Wall’s value to the franchise and rewarded him with a $170 million four-year contract extension (2019-2023). Including the next two seasons, Wall is scheduled to make $207.2 million through 2022-23.
