According to the big sports books in Nevada, there are only ten teams in competition for the BCS title for this season. Before you say ‘wait a minute, what about?’, take a look at the record the Las Vegas handicappers have established in setting spreads and totals. Those guys are pretty good. Actually they are very good uncanny at times. How do they get those totals so close on those high scoring games?
Baylor was looming large in the BCS projections before traveling up to Stillwater to take on Oklahoma State. The Bear’s hopes for a perfect season ended in that game as the Cowboys dominated Baylor from start to finish. The Bears only managed 3 points in the first half which did not bode well for a team averaging over 60 points per game. Baylor is now the #10 team on the handicappers list of possible BCS winners but their odds to win have ballooned to 500-to-1.
Florida State moved comfortably into second place in the BCS standings even though they had no real competition last week from Idaho. Jameis Winston and crew put up 80 points on the Vandals and easily covered the 56.6 point spread. Seminole fans across the country are hopeful that Winston’s domestic problems will clear up and not damage such a promising young career.
Florida State is being touted as the most likely opponent for Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game which will be played in Pasadena, California on January 6th. The Crimson Tide is still hands down favorites to repeat as champs for the third season in a row at 10-to-11. The Seminoles are currently at 6-to-5.
However, #1 Alabama must first get past the #4 ranked Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl being played this year at Auburn. Fans throughout the region began arriving at the Auburn Stadium a week early in anticipation of the big game which is an annual ‘big event’ in the state of Alabama.
The Crimson Tide has been posted as 11 point favorites to beat the Auburn Tigers who are currently listed at 12-to-1 odds to win the BCS Title this year.
Coming in third in the race for the BCS Title are Urban Meyer’s Ohio State Buckeyes at 6-to-1. Although they don’t get much love in the press, Ohio State is undefeated and looking to secure the Big Ten Title with ease. Should Alabama or Florida State falter this weekend, the Buckeyes stand ready to make the trip to Pasadena.
