It’s been a long twelve years for the Nets, who haven’t been able to find a home until now. The team has played in seven less than choice arenas, and during this time, has also had to contend with legal troubles, financial setbacks, and more. Fortunately for them, all of this passed, and the team was recently able to make the move to New York and to Brooklyn, a place they have wanted to be since the team first got its start back in the late 60s.
Though long-time fans and detractors alike don’t seem to have very high hopes that the Nets will do well in their new home, things are looking up for the team! The arena where they plan to play is lovely and just a few touches away from being finished. And, the team’s star point guard has decided to stay put.
Brooklyn-ites are feeling very good about having a team to call their very own so, regardless of what the rest of the world may think, the Nets already have a ready crowd of new fans! Fandom is long overdue for the team, a team that has, against all odds managed to win two American Basketball Association championships.
The move to Brooklyn, however, didn’t come without some sacrifice. The team had to sell off star player, Julius Erving, who took a spot with the Philadelphia 76ers and went on to huge success. Also, expensive Jason Kidd had to be traded to Dallas. These sacrifices, difficult as they must have been, are finally appearing to pay off. Deron Williams has signed on again, despite desperate attempts from other teams to lure him away, which should greatly increase the team’s prowess. Plus, the team was able to re-sign Gerald Wallace and bring on forward Mirza Teletovic. Currently, they are working to get Brook Lopez as well.
When you combine these small victories with the huge amount of support the team is receiving from Brooklyn Sports fans, it seems like a stellar season is on the horizon! Now, if the team can just get it together, play at their best, and wow new fans, they should be all set to become a legitimate presence in the basketball world.
