The Golden State Warriors held the veteran San Antonio Spurs to just 3 points in the overtime period while themselves scoring 13 to take game 4 of the 7 game series and even things up at 2-2 before going back to San Antonio to continue the battle for the NBA Championship for 2013.
The Warriors out gunned the Spurs in the first game in San Antonio and almost put them down 2-0 for the series before Manu Ginobili’s last second 3 won the game for San Antonio and evened the series at 1-1.
Game three back at Oracle Center in Oakland saw the older and more experienced Spurs power past the Warriors who never seemed to be up to speed that night. Then Curry twisted his ankle and the hopes and dreams of Golden State fans everywhere took a nose dive. No Curry, no way.
Imagine how the young Warrior team felt prepping for game four after losing two in a row with their star hurt and unsure if he could even play. They showed a mental toughness that few thought they had in them. Credit head coach Mark Jackson for guiding these guys through the dark times and back into victory lane once more.
The Warrior’s won the first game by raining buckets down from all over the court and almost took game two in the same manner. For game three, back on their home court in Oakland, the Warriors went cold from the floor and seemingly couldn’t even buy a basket for most of the game.
In their 5 previous playoff victories, Golden State was shooting 51.6% from the field. That has been their formula for success throughout the year. However, when the offense is not clicking, the Warriors are capable of turning on a defense that is second to none in the league. The Denver Nuggets could only manage 40.3% shooting from the floor scoring a sum total of 92 points in their loss to Golden State to finish the series.
The Warriors had to turn to their defense once again for game four against San Antonio and they did. It was a defensive battle throughout the contest with Golden State shooting only 38% but, at the same time, holding the Spurs to 35.5%. They only allowed San Antonio 3 points in the deciding overtime game period and tied up the series at 2-2 before going back to Texas to play the final games of the series.
