Pay per head bookies, sports bettors; friends & family all mourn the loss of Russell Hawkins. Russ or to most of us associated with online gaming knew him as “The Major” died doing what he loved, and that was flying!
“The Major” died in a plane crash while practicing take offs and landings near Cambridge, Ontario. According to witnesses his Cessna 172 float plane was taking off but wasn’t able to clear the tree tops near the shore. The plane clipped the tops of the trees as well as a power line; the aircraft flipped over and crashed into a wooded area!
Most of the pay per head bookies as well as the online gaming community only knew Russ as “The Major” from his online sports information and online gambling forum site www.majorwager.com.
In 2000 Russ was one of the co-founders of www.majorwager.com, he and his partner built up quite a loyal following of both sports bookies and online gamblers. The Major was very passionate and out spoken and he would participate in daily discussion in his online gaming forum. Whether you agreed with “The Major” or not you always knew right away exactly where he stood on an issue!
There was another side of this man that I personally had the pleasure of knowing for over 15 years. Russell was a real character he was kind and generous person who loved life. He loved his family and was a loyal friend who will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him!
