A couple of key welterweight bouts will take place at Bellator 182 on August 25 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.
The main event fight will feature former welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov attempting to stop Chidi Njokuani’s winning streak, while Brennan Ward and Fernando Gonzalez will go at it in another welterweight main card combat.
Koreshkov (19-2) will try to improve his place in the division after losing his welterweight belt against Douglas Lima at Bellator 164 in November 2016.
Prior to his loss, “The Spartan” had a six-fight winning streak including a win over Lima at Bellator 140 to win the title, and a defense over former UFC champion Benson Henderson at Bellator 153 in April, 2016.
Njokuani (17-4-1) holds a seven-fight winning streak, the most recent victory being a dominant win over Melvin Guillard on January 27.
“Chidi Bang Bang” accepted the fight with Guillard within a month of his previous bout against Andre Fialho, which took place on December 3 of last year. Njokuani has not lost since 2013, although he had a no contest in his 2014 fight against Chris Heatherly.
Ward (14-5) has lost two of his last three fights. He returns to action after Paul Daley knocked him out with a brutal flying knee hit in his last bout on January 21. Although, “The Irish Bad Boy” knocked out Saad Awad at Bellator 163 with a flurry of punches, Ward had been submitted by Evangelista Santos at Bellator 153.
Gonzalez (26-14) comes from winning via a unanimous decision against Brandon Girtz at Bellator 174. Overall, “The Menifee Maniac” has won six of his last seven fights, although he had his winning streak stopped at five, as he lost by decision against Michael “Venom” Page at Bellator 165 before facing Girtz.
