Based on an old college friendship, Cam Camron has landed back on a college campus again. This time last year Camron was the offensive coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens then, 13 games into the season, Camron was fired by Coach John Harbaugh in a surprise move that Camron later called “a brilliant motivational ploy.”
Neither coaches have ever had any bad words for the other and Harbaugh even ordered a Super Bowl ring for Cam. He told the press that firing Camron was “the hardest thing I’ve had to do as a coach.” Camron received several calls from other NFL teams with offers of employment but he also got a call from his old buddy, Les Miles with an intriguing offer.
Way back in their colligate days, LSU Head Coach Les Miles and Cam Camron were good friends. In fact, they shared an office when both of these guys were working cheap as assistants to the great Bo Schembechler at the University of Michigan. So, Miles already knew that Camron was one of the best offensive gurus in the game today and Miles was a coach in need of some new input on the offensive side of the ball. LSU is a perennial defensive power in the SEC but has been less than spectacular in recent years on offensive.
Camron was born into the world of athletics and his journey so far has taken him to the heights of his chosen profession. He was so good as a young quarterback that his high school coach at South Vigo High in Terre Haute let him call his on signals in the huddle when he was just a sophomore. Camron ended up at Indiana University where he played football for Le Corso and basketball under Bobby Knight. He coached at both Michigan and Indiana before going to the NFL and becoming one of the most successful assistant coaches in the league.
Camron jokingly says that he has never had to work a day in his life because he has never considered football as work. The man loves the game and now he has moved to a city with a long tradition of fanatical football played in a stadium known as Death Valley. Also known as Tiger Stadium, the 92,542 seat football venue on the campus of Louisiana State University in south Baton Rouge, is now primed and ready for Cam Camron to work his magic with the Tigers’ offense.
