Perennial Powerhouses Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Florida State were all favored going into game day Saturday. Georgia, Florida State and LSU were among the top 5 teams in the nation. All four lost outright at the end of the day. Mighty LSU, ranked third in the country, barely beat a struggling, listless Auburn team two weeks ago and their performance against Towson last week was not too hot, to say the least. You can’t succeed in today’s SEC conference resting on your laurels, preparation, discipline and attitude all play a major role in a team’s success. What happened yesterday to Georgia, Auburn, Florida State and LSU is a prime example of teams who decided they had the game won before taking to the field. Never, never underestimate an opponent; this is when they are most dangerous. LSU could easily lose at least two more games if they take to the field without their “heads in the game”. It appears as if it’s about time for Coach Les Miles and his staff to start kicking butt and taking names.
Arkansas Quarterback Tyler Wilson completed 20 of 27 passes for 216 yards. The Razorbacks scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away from a hapless Auburn Tiger team and win the afternoon 24-7. Wilson had to leave the game against Louisiana-Monroe earlier in the season with a possible concussion. It looks like he is back! The Razorbacks took a 10-0 lead into halftime despite two missed field goals, a big turnaround for a team that had been outscored 65-20 in the first half of its last three games. Arkansas still has to face South Carolina on Nov. 10 and LSU on Nov. 23.
The sixth ranked South Carolina Game Cocks hosted the #5 Georgia Bulldogs in Columbia, South Carolina in a classic SEC contest on a beautiful autumn afternoon and thrilled a capacity home crowd by besting the over rated “Dawgs” by an impressive 35-7. The Game Cocks now move up to #3 in the nation and Georgia falls to #14. Just another day in the SEC.
The Florida State Seminoles are in the ACC not the SEC but they are very much a part of the culture of southern football. They came into the game at Raleigh, North Carolina on Sunday ranked #3 in the AP Poll. They took on an unranked North Carolina State team who did not seem to be impressed by the high ranking. The NCState Wolf Pack came away with a 17-16 victory scoring 14 points in the wild fourth quarter. “We still control our own destiny in the ACC,” FSU Coach Jimbo Fisher said. “We have to refocus and not let this loss become two in a row. We let this one slip away from us.” The Seminoles are now ranked #12 in the AP Poll.
Stand by for more great football action next week!
