College football fans had been waiting all season long for a Saturday like this. This was the stuff that NCAA legends are built on. Rivalry games, Conference titles, with a whole lot of pride and school spirit were out there on the line and the fans were not disappointed, not at all.
The action got underway on Friday evening when the Bowling Green Falcons met undefeated Northern Illinois Huskies as 3 point underdogs on a cold night in Detroit. The Falcons and the Huskies were playing for the MAC title but the Huskies, with Heisman hopeful quarterback Jordan Lynch, were also hoping for a piece of the BCS Championship.
Bowling Green led at halftime by a score of 31-13 and the #16 Huskies could never catch up. Falcons quarterback Matt Johnson threw for 393 yards and 5 touchdowns effectively ending the Heisman bid for Lynch and the BCS dreams for Northern Illinois for this year. Final score 47-27 the Dog and the Over.
At noon on Saturday we had a terrific game when the Oklahoma Sooners went over to a frozen Stillwater to face the Oklahoma State Cowboys who were coming off of a big win over Baylor. The Cowboys were 10 point favorites to win the game which saw the lead change with every score until the final quarter when the Sooners pulled ahead.
Thanks to a bungled lateral by the Cowboys on the last play of the game, the Sooners scored another touchdown and pushed the total up to 57 points, handicappers had that total at 57.5! the Dog and the Under.
Then of course we had the SEC Championship Game going on at the same time as the game in Oklahoma. Auburn opened as 2 point favorites then the game went to a pick, then, on game-day, we found Missouri listed at 2 point favorites.
The Over & Under for the SEC title game was posted as 59.5 but that became sort of a joke as the game went on. 55 points were on the board when halftime rolled around. Auburn’s Trey Mason was doing everything that he could to run up the score. He ran for 304 yards on 46 carries for 4 touchdowns.
Finally, in the fourth quarter, Auburn was able to shut down the Mizzou defense while Nick Marshall and company put up an additional 14 points to ice the game and the SEC Championship for 2013. The final score of the battle was 59-42 for an amazing total of 101 points! The Dog and the Over took this one as well.
