Baseball is a wonderful sport. It is America’s pastime and we love passing away those long hot summer evenings out at the ball park or just lounging around the house and listening to Vin Scully spinning a game out as only he can. And MLB just starting to heat up. We still have the Divisional Playoffs and the World Series to go and we’ll all be watching.
However, in the meantime, we are all now starting to feel that old familiar vibe somewhere down deep that tells us that it is time once again for football, excuse me, FOOTBALL!!!
And this year’s football seasons, both college and pro, are shaping up to be something the likes of which we have not seen before, especially where the college teams are concerned. Gone is the BCS, thankfully and college football fans around the country are holding their collective breaths in hopes that this time around they will come up with something better.
There are a couple of other new factors in the mix for the 2014-2015 season. For the folks down South the advent of the SEC Network in conjunction with ESPN is a big event, a very big event. For the first time ever those fans will be able to watch just about every SEC sporting event that takes place. There are rumors of some homes of dedicated SEC fanatics adding 2 or even 3 new flat screens to their viewing rooms just to keep up with all the action.
ESPN is going all out nationwide to promote the upcoming colligate football season. They have even put out a short commercial spot featuring the likes of Urban Meyer and Les Miles in a humorous procession of clips from different schools all building us up for what’s coming.
The video carries a caption which reads, “This is the first season of the College Football Playoff. This year, it’s not just the players upping their games. The fans, the coaches, bands, cheerleaders and even the mascots are all taking it to the next level as well” and ends with the question, “Who’s In?” It’s well worth a look.
Everybody I know is in. Everyone I talk to is in. Let’s just get it started. The only thing that worries some folks is that there will be a committee which decides which teams will constitute the Final Four, because that’s all there’s going to be folks, only four teams will be picked to compete in the College Football Playoffs and that’s it. Everyone else watches on TV.
