Most sports fans were thrilled when Randy Moss landed a coveted spot with the San Francisco 49ers. However, those same fans who were so happy for Moss just don’t think he has what it takes to make it to this year’s Pro Bowl. Yes he’s the team’s number one receiver and has some amazing talent in his body, but he has some issues that are holding him back, and they aren’t showing any signs of going away. It’s a sad thing to watch someone with such a gift be not quite up to par.
To be fair, not all of Moss’ problems are completely his fault. One major issue he faces, for example, is the fact that he does play well with Alex Smith. Smith is a good passer in his own right, being able to throw the ball well over 20 yards. He does dump the ball on a regular basis, but that usually works in his favor. However, when it comes to how he plays with Moss, something just doesn’t jive. More than once, Smith just hasn’t been able to feed the pigskin to Moss, resulting in some frustrations.
Another issue that poor Moss can’t control is the fact that a strong offense team is all going to be vying for the ball. The 49ers has an array of wide receivers and tight ends, all of them good, and it’s just not likely that Moss is going to get the ball all that often. Plays are going to have to be evenly shared between hit players like Vernon Davis, Mario Manningham, A.J. Jenkins, and others. You’ve got to look at all the running back options too. Things are deep on that end, meaning that pass attacks on Moss’s part aren’t likely to occur too frequently.
Moss is really in quite the predicament. He’s got a good spot on a good team, and while he’ll almost certainly do well, it’s not likely that he’s going to be a big, standout star and make his mark on the Pro Bowl only time will tell!
