Of course, Lionel Messi is the odds on favorite to take home the Golden Boot for the outstanding player in the 2014 World Cup action beginning this month down in
Brazil, Messi has been the most popular player in the world for some years now.
Team Brazil’s outstanding young Neymar has the second shortest odds to win the Golden Boot, but wait folks… If you are interested in wagering on the upcoming World Cup Soccer Matches, check out the options that the jolly oddsmakers in Las Vegas have come up with.
But don’t be in a hurry. Pursuing the entire list of options being offered will take you some time to go over. I printed them out in readable small print, double spaced and I got 14 pages of things to bet on concerning the World Cup for 2014.
Obviously bettors will be able to place wagers on which team they think will take the 2014 World Cup and which team will emerge victorious for each group. But the oddsmen in Vegas go much further to capture the imagination and the pocket books of those desiring to bet on the World Cup action.
There are pages of matchups. Will Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal score the most goals in the tournament, or will it be Argentina’s Lionel Messi? Any players whose names most fans recognize will have at least one matchup to wager on.
Then, of course, bettors will have pages of Over & Unders to decipher and wager on as well as lots and lots of ‘yes or no’ types of props which are popular these days. Total points scored by each team in the tourney, the list goes on and on.
Jeff Sherman of the LVH Superbook in Vegas expects that the props on which player will score the most goals in the tourney will draw the most action at his casino. “The most popular one will be the Golden Boot”, said Sherman.
With just days remaining until the matches begin in Brazil, Lionel Messi is a 6-to-1 favorite although he has only scored one goal in his previous two World Cup appearances. Brazilian striker Neymar da Silva Santos Junior is at 10-to-1 followed by Cristiano Ronaldo at 12-to-1.
Patriotism abounds in Nevada where the books have written over twice as many wagers on the USA to win the 2014 World Cup as on any other team, when all the experts say that they have no shot at all of even getting out of the first group. Go figure.
