After the first round of college football games the ever powerful Southeastern Conference once again made a bold statement by winning the vast majority of their games. At least most of them won.
The big shocker of the day was the Georgia Bulldog’s loss to the Clemson Tigers. The ‘Dawgs were only 2 point favorites anyway. Was Georgia just having an off day…or is Clemson that good? Remember, it was the Clemson Tigers that beat the LSU Tigers in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta last year.
Not exactly a shocker, but still a disappointment, were the Kentucky Wildcats who allowed themselves to be beaten by in-state rival Western Kentucky University by a final score of 35-26. The only other SEC team to lose was the Vanderbilt Commodores who did, at least, lose to another SEC team in the form of the Ole Miss Rebels.
The other Bulldogs, the guys from Mississippi State University, put up a go ahead field goal in the first quarter but the Cowboys from Oklahoma State were just too much for them and the game ended in a 21-3 loss for the Bulldogs. The Cowboys covered their 12.5 points.
The rest of the teams in the SEC all won their contests…mostly unchallenged. The mighty Alabama Crimson Tide was never in jeopardy from Virginia Tech…but they only managed to cover by one half of a point!
LSU handled TCU at Arlington Stadium and of course the Florida Gators had no trouble beating an outmanned Toledo team. South Carolina managed a victory over rival North Carolina even with substandard performances from some of their star players.
