Thus far into the 2012 NFL season, there have not emerged any really dominant football teams. Atlanta is still undefeated by it cannot be said that they have dominated the play on the field so far. This past sunday, which was week 6 on the NFL schedule, we saw some strange action indeed.
Usually, when a pro quarterback throws for over 350 yards, they win the game, going away! Week 6 saw not one or two but seven NFL quarterbacks throwing for over 350 yards total. What did all seven have in common? They all lost the game!
Big Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers completed 24 of 40 passes for 363 yards only to lose to the Tennessee Titans by a final score of 26-23.
Carson Palmer of the Oakland Raiders passed for 353 yards only have the Atlanta Falcons walk away with the victory, 23-20, in the Georgia Dome.
Andy Dalton of the Cincinnati Bengals threw 46 times with 31 completions for 381 yards but lost to Cleveland Browns 34-24
St. Louis Rams Quarterback Sam Bradford completed 26 of 39 attempts for 315 yards but, at the end of the game it was the Rams 14, the Dolphins 17.
Christian Ponder of the Minnesota Vikings passed for 352 yards in 35 completions in 52 attempts. The Vikings lost it to RGIII and the Washington Redskins, 38-26.
Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Michael Vick passed 46 times, completing 28 for a total of 311 yards but lost to the Detroit Lions by a final score of 26-23 in OT.
And finally, everybody’s All Pro Quarterback Tom Brady of the New England Patriots completed 36 of 58 passes for 395 yards only to lose a tough one to the Seattle Seahawks 24-23.
Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, Jay Freeman of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Matt Stafford of the Detroit Lions all had great afternoons with over 300 yards passing. The difference was……. they all won!
Week 6 in the NFL also gave us five big upsets.
The Bengals were supposed to beat the Browns by 2.5 points but at the end of the game, it was Cleveland 34 and Cincinnati 24.
The Philadelphia Eagles went into the afternoon game as 3.5 point favorites but Matt Stafford and the Detroit Lions prevailed in Over Time by a score of 26-23.
The handicappers gave to Arizona Cardinals a 4.5 point edge against the Buffalo Bills but the Bills prevailed 19-16 in another exciting over time game.
The San Francisco 49ers played at home and the odds makers gave them a 6.5 point advantage over Eli Manning and the New York Giants. Eli however had other plans and the Giants handed the 49ers a 26-3 whipping.
The Houston Texans went into Reliant Stadium in Houston as one of only two undefeated teams in the NFL. They were 3.5 point favorites over the Packers but Green Bay Quarterback Aaron Rodgers put on a spectacular show throwing 6 touchdown passes and handed the Texans their first loss of the year 42-24.
Odds Makers and Handicappers across the country are still scratching their heads.
