Busted! Ohio Casino Dealer Cheating at the Tables

by admin on Saturday, September 8th, 2012

Casino Dealer BustedThe Ohio Casino Control Commission has announced the indictments of 11 people accused with cheating at the Hollywood Casino in Toledo, Ohio. These individuals were charged under the suspicion of running an organized roulette and craps scam over the course of two days. These charges are the first of their kind ever announced by the casino, which opened its doors just on May this year.

Among the charged individuals, there’s a dealer who has been accused of placing fraudulent wagers at the craps table she was dealing. Allegedly, another 6 individuals participated in an organized scam at the roulette tables just after a few days of operation.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission has pronounced about the charges, making very clear that the integrity of gambling is of the highest importance for the state of Ohio, and that sending a strong message for those trying to cheat or steal at any gambling establishment in the state.

BCI gaming agents have been highly trained to detect casino crooks, especially on games were cheating is more likely, such as craps, roulette and blackjack. By placing these indictments, the authorities hope that cheaters-to-be would think twice before committing any crime.

Roulette scams usually work at casinos by using a rather common technique called “past-posting” which basically works by one person distracting the dealer after the ball has stopped while other person moves the chips to the lucky number. The success of this technique depends on how focused and trained a dealer appears to be. Unfortunately for the Hollywood Casino in Toledo, most of their dealers were considered rookies when the casino first opened their doors, making it an easy target for scammers.

Of course there are also more stylish and complicated scams, which often times involve taking advantage of wheels that have shown signs of being biased toward certain numbers or to assess the speed of the wheel.

Online casinos provide an easy way to avoid these types of scams, since their software has to include a random number generator by law. Another resource casinos use to avoid this is to share a database of the names of potential cheaters and card counters, including their picture, data about the casinos that have thrown them out as well as the crowd with which they play.
