The story of Anargyros Karabourniotis, better known as Archie Karas, is now a part of poker legend. From 1992 to 1994, that Karas was able to turn $ 50 into over $ 40 million on something that has been known as “The Run.”
During that time, Karas beat some of the best poker players in history such as Chip Reese, Doyle Brunson, Stu Ungar, to name a few; in fact, Johnny Chan was the only one to beat him, with some $900,000. in the process.
Unfortunately for Kara, his big break came to an end, and in the next two years he lost everything he had won at the poker tables. Now, nearly two decades later, he continues to fall after he has been included in Nevada’s “black book”, known officially as the list of people excluded from Nevada.
The Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) unanimously voted to include Karas, now 64, on that list along with 33 other people. As a result, Karas, who did not appear at the hearing to defend himself, he would face criminal charges if he decides to enter a casino in Nevada.
Kara’s made it on the list for many reasons, the last one occurred in September 2013, when he was arrested for allegedly cheating playing Blackjack at the Barona Casino east of San Diego. Karas was finally convicted and sentenced to three years probation
Karas has about $ 205,000 in tournament winnings in his career and seven boxes in the World Series of Poker. His best finish came in the 2009 WSOP when he finished fifth in the $ 10,000 World Championship No-Limit Deuce-to-Seven Draw, he took a prize of $ 53,783. Now, he can no longer participate in any future WSOP events, currently playing at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
