In a month of June where the Yankees went 18-9 while averaging an A.L-best 1.63 homers per game, it was outfielder Giancarlo Stanton who led the charge.
The Yankees slugger unveiled his MVP-caliber last month as he had a .298 batting average, a .577 slugging percentage, along with five doubles, 17 RBIs, 11 walks and a team-leading eight homers while putting together a .950 OPS.
One of his most important home runs of the month was the one off pitcher Ryan Cook in the 9th inning against the Seattle Mariners at Yankee Stadium, which gave the Bronx Bombers a 7-5 walk-off victory.
Stanton has been seeing the ball exceptionally well as of late, he led the team with 31 hits and seems to have left behind his early season struggles as the Yankees continue to dominate opponents with raw power.
Furthermore, Stanton had a six-game hitting streak between June 2 and June 8 in which he had four homers and seven runs batted in; and a five-game hitting streak between June 16 and June 20 in which he had six RBIs and nine hits, with two of them being home runs and one a double.
Stanton went five-for-five on June 24 against the Tampa Bay Rays, marking the first five-hit game by a New York Yankee since outfielder Curtis Granderson did it in 2012.
His game-tying homer in the eighth was his 16th career game-tying or go-ahead home run in the eighth inning or later.
Stanton has now recorded at least four hits in a career-high four games this season, two of which came in June.
Stanton’s definitely beginning to heat up, and with the Yankees right in the middle of a pennant race, this is happening at the perfect time as he is showing no signs of slowing down.
