The Colorado Rockies defeated the Cleveland Indians 3-2 in 12 innings with a one-run homer by Charlie Blackmon after Jonathan Lucroy tied the game in the ninth with a double that brought home right fielder Carlos Gonzalez.
Dominican pitcher Carlos Estevez earned the win to improve to 5-0 and reliever Tyler Chatwood earned the save, while for the Indians Zach McAllister earned the loss to fall to 1-2.
The Indians could not avoid their third loss in the last four games despite a two-run homer by Francisco Lindor and seven strong innings of work by starter Trevor Bauer. The Indians right-handed pitcher struck nine and allowed no walks while earning just one run.
In New York the Texas Rangers defeated the Mets 5-1 led by eight strong innings from pitcher Martin Perez. Although the Venezuelan pitcher allowed first baseman Wilmer Flores to blast a one-run homer in the fifth inning, he recovered to strike out five batters and allow no walks to improve to 6-10.
In Chicago, pitcher Miguel Gonzales struck out four to lead the White Sox to a 7-1 win over the Houston Astros, who have now lost seven of their last 10 games.
In Milwaukee, veteran pitcher Bartolo Colon (4-9) earned his 237th career victory as he struck five and worked for seven innings, to help the Minnesota Twins shut out the Brewers 4-0.
In St. Louis, the Cardinals defeated the Royals 8-5 led by a grand slam from catcher Yadier Molina in the sixth inning and in Tampa Bay the Boston Red Sox defeated the Rays 8-2 to extend their winning streak to eight.
In Atlanta, the visiting Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Braves 3-2, in Anaheim the Angels defeated the Baltimore Orioles 5-1 and in Washington the Nationals routed the visiting Miami Marlins 10-1.
In other games, the San Francisco Giants defeated the visiting Chicago Cubs 3-1, the Seattle Mariners defeated the Athletics 6-3 in Oakland, the New York Yankees won 11-5 in Toronto against the Blue Jays and the Cincinnati Reds won at home 8-3 against the San Diego Padres.
