Despite not having Jamaal Charles for much of the season, the offensive continued to make his own under the command of Alex Smith, and sheltered by one of the best defenses in the NFL. Jeremy Maclin turned out to be a good weapon to Smith and Travis Kelce remained the go to player, defensive flourished with the heroic return of Eric Berry and rookie Marcus Peters, to be named defensive rookie of the year.
The good thing about the 2015 season for the Kansas City Chiefs
Recognize that the offense did not lose a single step with the loss of Jamaal Charles, and although Alex Smith is not a quarterback who can get wins every week, is an extremely reliable player and several NFL teams would love to have. Understanding continues seamlessly with Kelce and Maclin, although he could not achieve his full potential, he managed to exceed a thousand yards and came close to 100 receptions. Marcus Peters was a great and pleasant surprise, led the NFL with eight interceptions and is a player full of passion, which transmits to others. Despite serious injuries the team went ahead with huge adjustments by Andy Reid and defensive coordinator Bob Sutton.
The downside of the 2015 season for the Kansas City Chiefs
Smith is a player who can control games, but needs more than two weapons in his arsenal, outside Kelce and Maclin, the receivers for Kansas City is deplorable and notorious against competitive defensives, the team managed to get ahead but it is urgent to lend him a hand from the draft or free agency. The depth on the offensive line, which suffered injuries throughout the year which failed to cover some patches but it was impossible to have a decent group protecting Alex Smith and opening holes for West.
Chiefs season ended when …
They faced against a team with more talent and that the offense could not bend, the New England Patriots. The Chiefs were unable to move the ball and despite their defense kept them in the game a long time, Kansas City did not have the necessary weapons to make enough damage.
2016 Chiefs?
The division could be almost on a silver platter in 2016 if the team keeps its most valuable elements, however free agency could take its toll on the defensive end, the offseason will be a very important time for the future of the Chiefs and their future ambitions.
